Purpose
The Hana Buddhist Temple Preservation Association was created in 2015. It is a non-profit organization established solely for the purpose of restoration and preservation of the Hana Hongwanji Buddhist Temple. This would allow it to become a functioning space for community gatherings, educational classes and cultural events. Currently on the Hawaii State Register of Historic Places, it is a meaningful icon of cultural and historical significance, that is deeply rooted in the Hana community.
Our annual Bon Dance is a festive and joyous event, with over 500 people in attendance this year. The potential for future use is expansive, and will eventually become self sustaining through continued fundraising and community support. This year we are working towards the total restoration to bring it up to a code of safety before it can become operational. This organization is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors and a dedicated team of volunteer workers. Our ultimate geographic reach is to serve the Hana area and eventually expand to include visitors for an enhanced cultural experience.
Mission Statement
